ATLANTA, GA (April 2009) – In celebration of Earth Day, Atlanta-based Lipsey Mountain Spring Water and Kleber & Associates (K&A) joined forces with Habitat for Humanity and The Way You Could Garden Club on Saturday, April 18 to provide a deserving Habitat for Humanity homeowner with an expansive, water-conscious garden.
“Protecting and utilizing our environment is central to our work everyday. It is a pleasure to be able to provide such a deserving homeowner with the tools and resources to enjoy her own yard,” said Joe Lipsey, III president of Lipsey Mountain Spring Water.”
Habitat for Humanity selected the homeowner, Joyce Young, for her dedication to the organization’s education program. Since moving into her home in 2000, Young has attended numerous tutorials to assist her in maintaining and improving her home. Unfortunately, soon after attending a course on landscaping, Young injured her back and is no longer capable of landscaping her yard.
“Sustainable practices are an intricate part of our business and it is very gratifying to spread that knowledge and opportunity to such a worthy homeowner,” commented Steve Kleber, president and founder of K&A. “Habitat for Humanity is an organization that we are always proud to work with.”
K&A and Habitat for Humanity reached out to The Way You Could Garden Club to create a landscape plan for Young’s yard. Conscious of the importance of sustainability and the draught in Georgia, the landscape plan was designed by master gardeners to limit water usage. Lipsey Mountain Spring Water also provided its premium glass bottled mountain spring water to keep all of the volunteers well hydrated. In addition, as a surprise gift Lipsey Mountain Spring Water provided Ms. Young with a lawn mower to help keep her yard in shape.
Both Atlanta-based companies— Lipsey Mountain Spring Water and K&A—have a long history of giving back to the Atlanta community. Last year for Earth Day, the K&A staff joined the Better Sandy Springs Day to help clean-up the local park. In addition to assisting with the Habitat for Humanity gardening project, Lipsey Mountain Spring Water also donated water to Arbor Montessori School’s World Fair focused on improving the environment and “greening” the world.
